Who We Are at Old Ways
Rooted in Kitsap County, we are a woman-owned regenerative agricultural business dedicated to protecting the forests, waterways, and wildlife that make our corner of the Pacific Northwest so special. Through targeted goat grazing we provide environmentally conscious vegetation management services that support healthier landscapes and offer an alternative to conventional chemical-dependent methods. We believe in thoughtful land stewardship, regenerative practices, and ethical animal care, treating our goats as partners in protecting the land. Our mission is to serve the Kitsap community with sustainable vegetation management solutions that preserve the natural beauty and ecological health of the place we call home.
WHY GOATS?
Goats are well suited to the region’s varied terrain, including steep slopes, wooded areas, and hard-to-access properties where mechanical clearing can be challenging. Their grazing also returns nutrients to the soil through manure. When carefully managed to protect desirable plants and sensitive habitats, goat grazing provides Western Washington landowners with an effective, environmentally conscious approach to vegetation management and responsible land stewardship.
SERVICES
-
Goats are natural browsers, well suited to tackling dense brush, brambles, and overgrown vegetation. Our targeted grazing services help reclaim neglected areas, manage unwanted plant growth, and improve access to land that has become difficult to maintain.
Ideal for: Overgrown properties, brushy lots, fence lines, woodland edges, and neglected land.
-
Say goodbye, Blackberry, Scotch Broom, And Thistle!
Invasive plants can spread aggressively, displace native vegetation, and disrupt local ecosystems. Targeted goat grazing can help manage certain invasive plants by reducing their foliage and limiting their growth when grazing is carefully timed and monitored.
Ideal for: Properties with suitable invasive brush, dense blackberry growth, and other grazing-compatible problem plants.
-
Managing excess vegetation can help reduce the amount of combustible plant material in selected areas. Goats can browse grasses, brush, and other vegetation that may contribute to fuel accumulation, making targeted grazing a useful component of a broader wildfire risk-reduction strategy.
Ideal For: Rural properties, woodland edges, overgrown field margins, and selected areas around structures and access routes.
-
Targeted grazing can help manage unwanted vegetation on suitable slopes while reducing the need to bring large machinery onto sensitive terrain. Our approach considers slope stability, soil conditions, erosion risks, and the existing plant community.
Ideal for: Brush-covered hillsides, sloped acreage, embankments, and suitable areas that are difficult to maintain mechanically.
-
By carefully managing where and when goats graze, we can help landowners address overgrown areas and prepare selected sites for follow-up restoration work, such as native plantings or habitat improvement.
Every restoration project begins with understanding the land. We consider existing vegetation, desirable native species, soil conditions, and the property's ecological goals to develop an approach suited to the site.
Our mission is to help restore balance to the landscape while supporting the long-term health of the ecosystems we depend on.

Vegetation control is an ongoing challenge for solar installations and other infrastructure sites. Unmanaged growth can interfere with site access, maintenance activities, and the operation of certain facilities.
